On a late summer evening in Washington, D.C., the life of 21-year-old Dominic Dixon was cut short. On Sunday, August 28, 2011, at approximately 7:38 p.m., gunfire erupted in the 2 a.m. block of N Street, Northwest, not far from Dunbar High School. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered Dixon suffering from gunshot wounds. He was a male.
Emergency medical personnel transported Dixon to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead. In the same incident, another man was also shot and wounded a few blocks away.
The case remains open and under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department.
In the wake of his death, friends and family mourned the loss of the young man. A memorial Facebook page was created, and a candlelight vigil was planned to honor his memory. He is survived by his parents and ten siblings. As of now, public information does not indicate that any arrests have been made, nor have any suspects been officially named in connection with the shooting.
