On December 11, 2020, 36-year-old Jerry Lee James Jr. of Jasper, Alabama, succumbed to a gunshot wound at UAB Hospital. The incident occurred while he was visiting a woman at a mobile home on Vallon Circle, just east of Jasper. Authorities arrested Jose Martinez in connection with the shooting, charging him with capital murder.
