In a tragic turn of events on the night of January 27, 2021, 50-year-old Tammy Lynn McClellan was killed in her Arkadelphia, Alabama, home. The incident, which unfolded on County Road 5, was the result of a domestic dispute that escalated into violence. When members of the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office and other first responders arrived at the scene, they discovered that both Tammy McClellan and her husband, Thomas Leon McClellan, had sustained gunshot wounds.
Tammy McClellan was pronounced dead at the scene, while her husband was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Following an investigation into the shooting, Thomas Leon McClellan was arrested on February 27, 2021, and charged with the murder of his wife. The case proceeded to a four-day trial in April 2023, where prosecutors from the Cullman County District Attorney's Office presented evidence that demonstrated Thomas McClellan intentionally killed his wife. The jury ultimately found him guilty of murder.
In June 2023, Thomas Leon McClellan was sentenced for the murder of his wife. During the sentencing hearing, members of Tammy McClellan's family delivered victim impact statements. Citing a lack of remorse from the defendant, the prosecution sought the maximum sentence. The judge handed down a sentence of 99 years in prison for the crime.
