On December 27, 2024, 29-year-old Hispanic woman Yanela Caridad Delachaoux Castro was fatally shot in Big Spring, Texas. The incident occurred around 1:09 p.m. near the intersection of 16th and Young Street, where officers found her deceased in the roadway. Investigations revealed that Yanela had been shot inside her residence during a domestic disturbance and was then chased outside, where the assailant continued shooting her.
The suspect, 41-year-old Joansy Frankie San Pedro, was identified as Yanela's former partner. Authorities believe that the fatal shooting was the culmination of a domestic dispute. San Pedro was later located by the Howard County Sheriff's Department at a residence on Neil Road and arrested after the Big Spring Police Department obtained a murder warrant.
Yanela, who had been employed at Alberto’s restaurant for over a year, was remembered by coworkers as a sweet soul who always had a smile on her face. Following her death, the community rallied to raise funds to send her body back to Cuba for burial near her family. She is survived by her 12-year-old daughter, mother, and siblings.
A visitation was held on January 6, 2025, at Myers & Smith Funeral Home in Big Spring, allowing friends and coworkers to pay their respects.
In March 2025, a Howard County grand jury indicted Joansy Frankie San Pedro for the murder of 29-year-old Hispanic woman Yanela Caridad Delachaoux Castro. The indictment confirmed the details of the domestic violence incident leading to her death.
