Jennifer Abigail Lile, a 34-year-old Caucasian woman from Gladewater, Texas, was found deceased in her home on July 31, 2021. Authorities responded to a call at approximately 7:00 p.m. at a residence located on Private Road 1016 off Willow Oak Road in the Union Grove community. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered Lile with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. Her husband, 37-year-old Mark James Lile, was also found at the scene suffering from a serious gunshot wound to his body. He was transported to UT Health Tyler for medical treatment.
The Upshur County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Jennifer Abigail Lile’s death. Officials initially stated that they had not determined whether her wounds were self-inflicted or the result of a homicide. Meanwhile, authorities suspected that Mark James Lile’s injuries were self-inflicted. Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 Judge Wyone Manes ordered an autopsy to be conducted on Jennifer Abigail Lile’s body, which was sent to Tyler for further examination.
At the time of the investigation, no arrests had been made, and law enforcement continued to gather evidence while awaiting autopsy results and medical findings. The case remained under review as authorities worked to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the tragic incident.
