In the summer of 2021, a life was tragically cut short in Anniston, Alabama. On the evening of Sunday, August 8th, police were called to the 300 block of Elm Street where they found 38-year-old Antonio D. Williams suffering from a gunshot wound. He was discovered lying on the ground near a parking lot. Emergency services transported him to Regional Medical Center, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators learned that a physical altercation had taken place between
Williams and another man just before the shooting. This dispute is believed to have escalated, leading to the fatal shot being fired. The incident marked the second homicide in Anniston within a month that stemmed from an argument that turned violent.
Following an investigation, Anniston Police identified Larryl Jerod Gaston, a 56-year-old man also from Anniston, as the suspect in the shooting. Gaston was located by investigators and taken into custody without incident. He was subsequently booked into the Calhoun County Jail.
Initially, Gaston was held on a homicide charge. However, the charge was later upgraded to murder. A bond for Gaston was set at $60,000. The case then moved into the judicial system for further proceedings.
