On September 23, 2021, 19-year-old Elias Gaspar Escobar Lopez and a 17-year-old male were fatally shot in the parking lot of a Taco Bell on Gunter Avenue in Guntersville, Alabama. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene by responding authorities.
The following day, 24-year-old Kevon Yenovi Williams of Georgia was arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with the shootings. In October 2021, a grand jury indicted Williams, who claimed he acted in self-defense.
