On September 24, 2021, in Phenix City, Alabama, 35-year-old Jessica Martin and her boyfriend, 40-year-old Richard Cook, were fatally shot by her ex-husband, 47-year-old Jeffrey Lynn Martin. Jessica, who was eight months pregnant, was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown Hospital, where both she and her unborn child were pronounced dead.
