Just after midnight on January 18, 2022, Malik Saintelus, a 20-year-old Black male from Montgomery, Alabama, was found shot in the 8400 block of Crossland Loop, an area just off Vaughn Road between Peppertree Lane and Halcyon Boulevard. Police and fire medics were called to the scene at about 12:05 a.m., and when they arrived they found him with a fatal gunshot wound.
In those first hours, the case was treated as a homicide, and the killing left another young life abruptly cut short in east Montgomery.

Authorities said Tyre had been taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Task Force and placed in the Montgomery County Detention Facility. Police publicly identified him as the suspect in Malik’s killing and said he was charged with capital murder. Booking information tied to the case indicated the charge was capital murder during robbery in the first degree, suggesting investigators believed the homicide occurred in the course of a robbery or attempted robbery.
