On March 13, 2022, in Hillsboro, Alabama, 59-year-old Martha Chardavoyne Athon was found deceased in her home alongside her husband, 54-year-old James "Jay" William Athon Jr. Authorities responded to a welfare check at their residence and discovered both individuals dead from gunshot wounds. Investigators determined that James Athon fatally shot his wife before taking his own life in an apparent murder-suicide.
