On the morning of the Fourth of July in 2022, a day of celebration was shattered by violence in Montgomery, Alabama. Alfredo Pantaleon Rosales, a 45-year-old Hispanic man, was found shot just before 8:30 a.m. in the 3300 block of Harris Street. His death was one of three homicides to occur in the city over the holiday weekend, casting a somber shadow over the community.
The Montgomery Police Department immediately opened a homicide investigation into the shooting death of Rosales.
Within days, their efforts led to an arrest. On July 8, police took 19-year-old Demarcus Knox of Montgomery into custody. He was charged with murder and transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility, where his bond was set at $1.5 million.
The investigation did not end with the first arrest. Less than a week later, on July 14, authorities announced they had apprehended a second suspect. Cortez McDade Jr., also 19 and from Montgomery, was arrested and charged with murder in connection with the death of Rosales. Like Knox, he was taken to the Montgomery County Detention Facility and held on a $1.5 million bond.
Both Demarcus Knox and Cortez McDade Jr. are accused of shooting Alfredo Pantaleon Rosales. Authorities have not released a motive for the homicide or any further details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting. As of July 2022, both suspects were in custody awaiting further legal proceedings.
