In the summer of 2022, the life of 23-year-old Quinterrius Dean, a male resident of Montgomery, Alabama, was tragically cut short. On the evening of Thursday, July 14, 2022, Montgomery Police and fire medics were dispatched to the 3700 block of Strathmore Drive after receiving a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they found Dean suffering from a fatal gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial investigation into the homicide was undertaken by the Montgomery Police Department. In the days that followed, law enforcement officials worked to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. Their efforts quickly led to a breakthrough in the case. Less than 24 hours after the incident, the police department announced that they had a suspect in custody.
Further investigation by the Montgomery Police Department identified Jaterrious “Dada” Johnson, 20, of Montgomery, as the primary suspect. A warrant for his arrest was secured, charging him with one count of capital murder in connection with the death of Quinterrius Dean. On Friday, July 15, 2022, Johnson was located and taken into custody by the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force. Following his arrest, he was transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility.
The case then moved to the judicial system. In October 2022, a preliminary hearing was held where a judge determined there was probable cause to move the case to a grand jury. Subsequently, in December of the same year, the Montgomery County grand jury indicted Jaterrious Johnson on the charge of capital murder. As of early 2024, Johnson was being held without bond at the Montgomery County Detention Facility, awaiting trial. The trial date was initially set for March 4, 2024, but was later continued to August 26, 2024.
