In a tragic turn of events that shattered a family, 64-year-old Kenny Walker, a male resident of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, was fatally shot on October 8, 2022. The incident, which also claimed the life of 66-year-old Mitchell Lewis, unfolded inside a home in the 3000 block of 20th Street. Both Walker and Lewis were rushed to DCH Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
Lewis succumbed to his injuries that same night, while Walker passed away the following morning.
The investigation into the double homicide quickly pointed to a single suspect: 30-year-old Devin Martez Quinzy of Moundville. In a heartbreaking twist, authorities identified Kenny Walker as Quinzy's father. Witnesses at the scene provided a description of the suspect and the vehicle he fled in, which belonged to one of the victims. Investigators were able to make contact with Quinzy by phone shortly after the shooting.
Following the phone conversation with law enforcement, Devin Martez Quinzy surrendered to police in the parking lot of a business on Highway 69 South. He was taken into custody without incident. Initially, he faced charges of murder and attempted murder. However, after Walker died from his injuries, the charges against Quinzy were upgraded to capital murder, reflecting the death of two individuals. He was subsequently booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail and held without bond. Investigators stated there was no evidence of an argument preceding the fatal shooting.
