On January 7, 2023, Kaitlyn Inez Jenkins, a 20-year-old African American woman from Phenix City, Alabama, was tragically killed in a mass shooting at a 21st birthday party held at Legacy Events on U.S. Highway 72 near Ryland Pike in Huntsville.
