In the early hours of January 11, 2023, the life of 27-year-old Anthony Latez Gray Jr., a Black male, was tragically cut short in Ozark, Alabama. The fatal incident unfolded at the Jasmine Hill Apartments, where police responded to a call just after midnight. Upon arrival, they discovered Gray inside one of the apartments with a single gunshot wound to his chest.
Emergency services transported Gray to Dale Medical Center, but his injury proved too severe, and he was pronounced dead at
1:15 a.m. The Ozark Police Department swiftly launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. Gray's body was sent to Montgomery for an autopsy to aid in the investigation. He was born on September 15, 1995, in El Paso, Texas, and was a resident of Ozark at the time of his death. He is survived by his four children and other family members.
Following a series of interviews, the collection of physical evidence, and the execution of several search warrants, investigators identified a suspect in the case. The day after the shooting, police arrested 25-year-old Woodro Elijah Barnes. He was subsequently charged with murder in connection with Anthony Gray's death.
