In the small town of Citronelle, Alabama, the life of 22-year-old Logan Trace Wainwright was cut short on the night of Saturday, January 28, 2023. A former youth football coach in the community, Logan was known for his love of family, hunting, and fishing. His tragic death was the result of a violent ambush fueled by a volatile domestic situation.
The events of that fateful evening unfolded at the home of Renee Holder, the ex-wife of Michael Anthony Holder.
Logan was in a relationship with Renee, and Michael had reportedly been sending her insistent and unsettling messages throughout the day. Despite her attempts to put him off, Michael was waiting at her residence when she and Logan returned that night. He emerged from the house armed and confronted Logan.
Without warning, Michael Holder allegedly opened fire on Logan Wainwright as he sat in the front seat of his Dodge Challenger. Investigators reported that the vehicle was riddled with approximately 27 to 28 bullets, fired from what was described as an AK-47. Logan sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene. During the chaos, Renee Holder managed to escape into the nearby woods.
The gunfire attracted the attention of Renee's stepfather, who lived nearby. He came to investigate and exchanged gunfire with Michael Holder. Following the shootout, Holder was found with what was believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment. Michael Holder was later arrested and charged with the murder of Logan Wainwright. During his trial, his ex-wife testified against him, detailing the escalating harassment that preceded the deadly confrontation.
