In the winter of 2023, the life of 34-year-old Devadney Sanchez Lauderdale, a male resident of Sylacauga, Alabama, was cut short in a burst of violence. On the evening of Sunday, February 5th, officers from the Sylacauga Police Department were dispatched to the Drew Court housing complex following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, they discovered Lauderdale in the front yard of a residence on Sherwood Drive, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services were
immediately administered at the scene, and Lauderdale was rushed to Coosa Valley Medical Center. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was subsequently airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for more advanced care. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Devadney Sanchez Lauderdale succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on Monday, February 6, 2023.
Known to his loved ones as 'Pookie,' Lauderdale was a father and a graduate of Sylacauga High School. His death prompted an ongoing homicide investigation by the Sylacauga Police Department. Authorities have encouraged anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward and have provided contact information for the department's tip line to aid in their search for answers. At this time, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been announced in connection with the shooting.
