In the late spring of 2023, a dispute in Semmes, Alabama, ended in a family tragedy. On the evening of Friday, May 12th, 37-year-old Trenton McVay was with his twin brother, Brenton McVay, and another individual on Western Hill Drive when a fight broke out. The altercation escalated, and Brenton McVay allegedly used a handgun to pistol-whip the third person involved in the conflict.
During the course of this assault, the firearm discharged.
The single shot struck Trenton McVay, his twin brother. The wound proved to be fatal, and Trenton McVay died as a result of the accidental shooting. The Mobile County Sheriff's Office investigated the incident, determining that the shooting was unintentional.
Following the investigation, Brenton McVay was taken into custody. He was not charged with the death of his brother. Instead, he faced a charge of first-degree assault for the injuries inflicted upon the third man during the altercation.
