In the early evening of May 13, 2023, the life of 34-year-old Deontae Vickers was tragically cut short in Montgomery, Alabama. Around 5:23 p.m., police responded to a report of shots fired in the 400 block of Finley Avenue. Upon their arrival, they discovered Ms. Vickers with a life-threatening gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of first responders, she was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The initial stages of the investigation saw the Montgomery Police Department reaching out to the
public for assistance. They released descriptions of two potential male suspects they believed might have been involved in the fatal shooting. A cash reward was offered by Central Alabama CrimeStoppers for any information that could lead to an arrest, a plea that was met with a significant response from the community.
This community engagement proved to be crucial in the advancement of the case. An anonymous tip submitted through CrimeStoppers provided investigators with the critical information they needed to identify a suspect. This breakthrough led to the arrest of 23-year-old Nyeiasha Lykes on May 17, 2023. Lykes was subsequently charged with the murder of Deontae Vickers and was booked into the Montgomery County Detention Facility, where she was held without bond. The investigation has not publicly disclosed a motive for the shooting.
