In the early hours of June 15, 2025, 28-year-old Carmilla Taylor, a Black woman from Montgomery, was found shot alongside another woman in the 2800 block of East South Boulevard. Police and fire medics were called around 2 a.m. to the commercial corridor near Governors Square and the former Montgomery Mall; both victims were rushed to a hospital, where 28-year-old Carmilla Taylor was pronounced dead and the second woman remained seriously injured.
