In the summer of 2023, the life of 22-year-old Quontavious Janard Cooper, a male resident of Anniston, Alabama, was tragically cut short. On the evening of June 17th, Cooper was in Talladega at the intersection of East Battle Street and Haynes Street. He was inside a vehicle with another man when gunfire erupted, fatally wounding him and injuring the other occupant.
The Talladega Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the shooting.
News of the violent act spread, leaving friends and family to mourn the young man, known to some as 'Lil Coop.' An obituary remembers him as a 2019 graduate of Anniston High School and a father.
Less than a month after the incident, a significant development occurred in the case. On July 5, 2023, detectives from the Talladega Police Department, with assistance from the Anniston Police Department, arrested a suspect. Daviontae Q’Shawn Malik Snodgress, a 23-year-old from Anniston, was taken into custody and charged with capital murder in connection with Quontavious Cooper's death. Following his arrest, Snodgress was held in the Talladega County Jail without bond.
