In the late evening of Saturday, April 2, 2022, the life of 14-year-old Jeremiah Ra’Shad Curry was tragically cut short in Talladega, Alabama. The young male was the victim of a shooting that occurred on Knox Street. At the time of his death, Jeremiah was an 8th-grade student at Zora Ellis Junior High School. He was known for his love of playing basketball and football in local leagues and had aspirations of playing professionally.
Described as being full of life with a likable personality, his death was a significant loss to his family and the community.
The Talladega Police Department opened an investigation into the shooting death of the teenager. However, information regarding the circumstances that led to the shooting has not been publicly released. To date, there have been no reports of any arrests made in connection with the homicide, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The case remains an active investigation.
Another unsolved homicide in Talladega is that of 22-year-old Nijah Latajuan Curry. On the evening of April 7, 2020, at approximately 8:38 p.m., officers from the Talladega Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting gunshots in the vicinity of 432 W. Coosa Street. Upon their arrival, they discovered Nijah Curry with a fatal gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene. A second individual was also found at the location with non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local medical center for treatment.
Years after the incident, the investigation into Nijah Curry's death continues, and it is now considered a cold case. In an effort to generate new leads, Central Alabama CrimeStoppers has offered a cash reward of $2,500 for any information that results in the arrest of the person or persons responsible for the homicide. Law enforcement officials and Curry's family are hopeful that the reward will encourage someone with knowledge of the case to come forward. No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been named in this ongoing investigation.
