On May 5, 2023, 43-year-old Johnathan Vann Boyd, a Black male from Talladega, Alabama, was found deceased in his residence on Howell Cove Road. Concerned for his welfare, officers from the Talladega Police Department had gone to his home to conduct a check. Upon entering, they discovered Boyd had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services were dispatched to the scene, but Boyd was pronounced dead.
His body was later transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy to officially determine the cause of death. The Talladega Police Department subsequently launched a homicide investigation into the shooting.

Those who knew him remembered his vibrant personality and his passions, which included a love for cars, particularly Mustangs, as well as an enjoyment of woodworking and spending time in his yard.
To date, the investigation into Johnathan Vann Boyd's death is ongoing, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the case. Central Alabama CrimeStoppers has offered a reward of $1,000 for any information that leads to the identification and arrest of the individual or individuals responsible for his death.
