On the evening of August 16, 2023, 43-year-old Petorey Naquan Varner was fatally shot outside the Dollar General store on Gregory Street in Hurtsboro, Alabama. Authorities responded to reports of an injured individual around 11 p.m., and upon arrival, Varner was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.
