In the small town of Hurtsboro, Alabama, a routine police call on January 27, 1981, spiraled into a tragedy that would take years to untangle. Hurtsboro Police Chief George L. Claypool, a 43-year-old male, responded to a report of a suspicious person. Upon making contact with the individual, a struggle ensued. In the ensuing confrontation, Claypool was tragically shot and killed with his own weapon.
