On the morning of Friday, October 27, 2023, at approximately 8:42 a.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to a "person down" call in the 3900 block of Walnut Avenue SW, located in the Riley community of Birmingham, Alabama. Upon arrival, they discovered 47-year-old Dominick Dwayne Peterson lying unresponsive off the roadway, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene.
