In the cool morning air of Friday, October 27, 2023, a concerned citizen in the Riley community of Birmingham, Alabama, made a grim discovery. Lying unresponsive off the roadway in the 3900 block of Walnut Avenue SW was a man who had been shot. Birmingham Police and Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel were dispatched to the scene at approximately 8:42 a.m., where they identified the man as 47-year-old Dominick Dwayne Peterson, a Black male from the nearby city of Bessemer.
