In the late afternoon of Sunday, January 28, 2024, a dispute in Mobile, Alabama, turned fatal, ending the life of 44-year-old Khaliaka Meardry, a Black female. The incident occurred around 5:13 p.m. in the 600 block of Chin Street, where Meardry resided. Events escalated from a verbal argument to a violent physical attack.
The disagreement reportedly began after Meardry confronted the 12-year-old nephew of one of the suspects. This led to a confrontation between Meardry and three women.
The verbal altercation intensified, resulting in the women allegedly assaulting Meardry with a blunt object before one of them shot her. When Mobile Police Department officers arrived at the scene, they found Meardry unresponsive; she was pronounced dead from her injuries.
Following the incident, authorities arrested three suspects in connection with the murder. The women were identified as 37-year-old Sierra Giles, 32-year-old Kendra Nettles, and 35-year-old Terrilyn Williams. All three have been charged with murder.
According to prosecutors, the altercation was a direct result of Meardry having 'cussed out' Giles's nephew. It is alleged that the three women went to Chin Street to fight Meardry. During the confrontation, Williams, who is Giles's sister, allegedly provided Giles with the gun that was used to shoot Meardry. Court documents indicate that Kendra Nettles has cooperated with investigators and provided a statement about the events of that day. Bond was set at $275,000 for Sierra Giles, and $100,000 each for Kendra Nettles and Terrilyn Williams. The case is an active homicide investigation.
