On the evening of March 30, 2023, the sound of gunfire shattered the peace in the 1000 block of Partridge Street in Mobile, Alabama. When Mobile Police officers arrived at the scene at approximately 6:19 p.m., they found 36-year-old Dajarra Jackson, a Black female, lying on a lawn with a life-threatening gunshot wound. Emergency services transported her to a local hospital, but she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
During the investigation at the scene, it was discovered that a
14-year-old male had also been a victim of the violence, sustaining a graze wound. He was treated for the minor injury at the location. Additionally, an occupied vehicle at the residence was struck by the gunfire, though no other injuries were reported.
The investigation into the shooting death of Dajarra Jackson continued for nearly a month. Then, on the night of April 26, 2023, authorities made an arrest. 18-year-old Jayon Johnson was taken into custody and charged with the murder of Jackson. News footage captured Johnson being escorted to the Metro Jail by police. The arrest brought a significant development to a case that had left a community searching for answers.
