In the early hours of a Wednesday morning in Birmingham, Alabama, a domestic argument escalated into a fatal encounter that ended the life of 33-year-old Jeremy Lamar Andrews. On February 28, 2024, police were called to a home in the 7800 block of 7th Court South, where they found Andrews unresponsive inside the residence, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite the efforts of Birmingham Fire and Rescue, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The events leading to the shooting began as a verbal dispute between a man and a woman at the residence. Jeremy Andrews, who was born on April 23, 1990, arrived at the home and became embroiled in a physical altercation with the male individual. Investigators reported that both men were armed, and during the struggle, the other man shot Andrews.
Initially, the man who shot Andrews was taken into custody by the Birmingham Police Department as a suspect in the killing. However, after a thorough review of the evidence presented in the case, the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office determined that the shooter had acted in self-defense. Consequently, the investigation was reclassified as a justifiable death, and no criminal charges were pursued against the individual who fired the weapon.
