In the early evening of June 24, 2024, Holloway Vason, a 67-year-old male resident of Montgomery, Alabama, was at a convenience store in the 3400 block of Woodley Road. At approximately 7:15 p.m., he sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound. Emergency services transported him to a local hospital for treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries three days later on June 27, 2024.
Vason was remembered by his family as a loving, sweet, and kind man who had a passion for life, people, and the Alabama Crimson Tide.
The initial investigation by the Montgomery Police Department suggested the involvement of three male suspects who were seen wearing black ski masks and fled the scene on foot into the Woodley Park neighborhood. In the weeks that followed, Central Alabama CrimeStoppers offered a cash reward for information leading to an arrest, which was later increased from $2,500 to $7,500. Investigators also released a photo of an unidentified person believed to be connected to the homicide.
A breakthrough in the case came thanks to a tip from the public. On September 17, 2024, the Montgomery Police Department arrested a 14-year-old male in connection with the murder of Holloway Vason. The juvenile suspect was taken into custody and is being held without bond at the Montgomery County Youth Detention Facility. The arrest brought a small measure of comfort to Vason's family, who were still grappling with the loss nearly three months after the shooting.
