On the night of October 12, 2024, tragedy struck in Alexander City when 20-year-old Marquell Banks lost his life in a fatal shooting. The young African American male was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to Russell Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. The incident occurred in the 2000 block of County Road, a location that has seen its share of violent crimes in recent years.
