On a late summer evening in Washington, D.C., the life of a young man was violently cut short in a brutal series of events that began in Maryland and concluded with a grim discovery. Malik Thomas, a 21-year-old African-American male, was the victim of a homicide on September 5, 2015. Prior to his death, it is believed that Thomas was abducted at gunpoint by two men from outside a residence in Suitland, Maryland.

Later that same evening, at approximately 9:16 p.m., authorities responded to a call in the 400 block of Xenia Street, Southeast. Upon arrival, they found a vehicle engulfed in flames. After the fire was extinguished, the charred remains of Malik Thomas were discovered inside. An investigation determined that he had been shot and killed before the vehicle was set ablaze.
