On January 31, 1981, 20-year-old Marlene Peters from Tanana, Alaska, was last seen attempting to hitchhike from Fairbanks to Anchorage to visit her ailing father. Her disappearance raised immediate concerns, but the exact circumstances remained unclear. It wasn't until May 1981 that her body was discovered near Johnson Road, approximately 32 miles south of Fairbanks, close to the Trans-Alaska Pipeline.
