On April 28, 1984, in Fairbanks, Alaska, 33-year-old Roger Francis Culp disappeared under suspicious circumstances. He was last seen entering the cabin of his neighbor, Michael Alan Silka, a 25-year-old drifter and former Army marksman. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots shortly after Culp entered Silka's residence. However, these reports were not immediately communicated to authorities.
