The investigation led authorities to arrest 21-year-old Kasilof resident, Michael McBride, on charges of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence. According to court documents, McBride had been living with Arabasz as a caretaker. Evidence presented during the trial included DNA linking McBride to the crime scene and witness testimonies about his behavior leading up to the incident.
In 2018, McBride was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to 99 years in prison without the possibility of parole.
