A Caucasian/White, Desiree Michelle Lekanoff, age 22, female, vanished from Anchorage in late 2001, slipping out of sight in the long subarctic winter. Reported missing by her boyfriend after she was last seen on November 24, 2001, her absence stretched from days to months as friends and family waited for any trace. What followed would be a sorrowful, painstaking search that crossed seasons and tested a city's resolve.
