On October 28, 2018, in Utqiagvik, Alaska, a gathering was held to celebrate the 27th birthday of Asiagin Dana Ahmaogak. During the festivities, Ahmaogak brandished a handgun, prompting the host, Victoria Koonaloak, to ask him to leave the residence. After being expelled, Ahmaogak remained outside, persistently knocking on the door.
