Kimberly “Kim” Bridges, a 65-year-old White/Caucasian female from the Fairbanks area, vanished in late October 2021 after her husband told Alaska State Troopers she'd left their Fox, Alaska, home with an unknown couple in a green Subaru. Investigators found the circumstances “highly suspicious” and opened a months-long inquiry while loved ones waited for news. The wait ended on May 25, 2022, when a tour group traveling the Dalton Highway, near Mile 47 by the Yukon River bridge north of Fairbanks, discovered human remains just off the road. The State Medical Examiner's preliminary findings pointed to homicide.
The body was identified as Kimberly “Kim” Bridges, age 65. Within weeks, the investigative trail led back to her husband, Robert Bridges. He was arrested on Friday, June 10, 2022, and booked at the Fairbanks Correctional Center on $1 million bail, charged with murder and evidence tampering. According to charging information reported at the time, the discovery of her remains was the turning point that linked the missing-person case to a homicide investigation.
In court proceedings that followed, prosecutors laid out a grim sequence: Robert Bridges had shot his wife in the back of the head, wrapped her in bedding and a tarp, and dumped her along the Dalton Highway. A Fairbanks jury in November 2024 found him guilty of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and tampering with physical evidence. The verdict confirmed investigators' early suspicions and closed the question of who was responsible for the killing north of Fairbanks.
On May 12, 2025, Judge Patricia Haines sentenced Robert Bridges, then 62, to 75 years to serve for murder. In announcing the sentence, the court noted his months-long efforts to conceal the crime and mislead authorities and family, and described the manner in which Kimberly's body was left as depriving her of dignity. With the conviction and sentence, the case that began with a mystery in Fox and a roadside discovery along the Dalton Highway reached its legal conclusion.
