On January 30, 2018, in Fairbanks, Alaska, 26-year-old Jasmine Lynn States was fatally shot. The incident occurred midmorning when police received a call from a man reporting that a suspect had shot his friend and attempted to shoot him as well. The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Benjamin Akaran, was later apprehended attempting to enter Randy Smith Middle School. Akaran was subsequently arrested at a residence later that day.
