At approximately 2:59 p.m., the sharp report of gunfire shattered the day's calm. Members of the Metropolitan Police Department's First District rushed to the scene to find Williams suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

services arrived swiftly and transported him to a local hospital. Despite the urgent efforts of medical personnel to save him, Davane Williams succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The incident marked another grim statistic in the city's homicide count, prompting concern from local officials and the community.
The investigation into the shooting moved forward, and just over a month later, on February 26, 2019, an arrest was made. The Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended 22-year-old Tyree Irving of Northeast, D.C. He was subsequently charged with First Degree Murder while Armed in connection with the death of Davane Williams. Authorities also linked Irving to a separate shooting that had occurred on February 18, 2019, in the 1300 block of North Capitol Street, Northwest, and he faced an additional charge of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon for that incident.
Court documents later revealed that video footage allegedly showed Irving approaching Williams and another individual. It is purported that Irving then walked behind Williams, drew a semi-automatic weapon, and shot him multiple times in the back before fleeing the scene. The motive for the shooting was not immediately made public by the police. The case against Tyree Irving proceeded through the legal system, with court hearings and plea offers being part of the ongoing judicial process.
