In the early morning hours of Saturday, December 30, 2023, the life of 18-year-old Dekhota Evans was tragically cut short in a shooting in Northwest Washington, D.C. Evans, a Black male from Northeast D.C., was in the 500 block of Florida Avenue, Northwest, when he was shot at approximately 6:06 a.m.
Following the shooting, Evans was privately taken to a local hospital by unknown individuals. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The Metropolitan Police Department was notified of a shooting victim at the hospital around 7:00 a.m. and subsequently launched a homicide investigation.
Detectives from the department's Homicide Branch are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting. As of now, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the case. The police have issued a public appeal for information and are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Dekhota Evans's death. The investigation remains ongoing as his family and community await answers.
