Do you know who killed Desimon Richardson and Jobe McDowney in 2019? On the evening of April 4, 2019, a burst of gunfire shattered the residential calm of the 4900 block of Nash Street in Northeast Washington, D.C. When the sounds of violence subsided, 21-year-old Desimon Julio Richardson, a Black male from Temple Hills, Maryland, was found suffering from fatal gunshot wounds. The incident, which occurred at approximately 8:15 p.m., also claimed the life of 23-year-old Jobe McDowney of Southeast D.C.
Responding to reports of the shooting, officers from
the Metropolitan Police Department's Sixth District discovered Richardson and McDowney inside the stairwell of a residential building. Both men had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene by D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel, having shown no signs of life upon their arrival. A third man was found nearby with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
The investigation into the double homicide led to the arrests of two suspects. Keith Anthony Johnson, then 26, and Kevon Pinkett, then 18, were subsequently charged with second-degree murder while armed in connection with the deaths of Richardson and McDowney. The Metropolitan Police Department had offered a substantial reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the killings that had shaken the local community.
