Do you know who murdered Michael Taylor in 2019? On the afternoon of Saturday, January 12, 2019, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace in the 1700 block of Benning Road, Northeast. When Metropolitan Police Department officers from the Fifth District arrived at the scene around 2:05 p.m., they discovered a chaotic scene with three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims, a young man named Michael Taylor, was gravely injured. Emergency medical services rushed him to a nearby hospital, but his wounds proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead. He was 22 years old. The two other victims, one of whom was a child, were also transported to local hospitals and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation into the shooting led to the identification of five suspects. Within weeks of the incident, authorities began making arrests. One of the first to be apprehended was 18-year-old Stephon Evans, who was charged with first-degree murder while armed.

Another defendant, Carlos Turner, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. During his sentencing, it was noted that he had been seen on surveillance footage armed with a handgun and firing into the building where the shooting occurred. The outcomes for the other individuals charged, Naquel Henderson and Alonzo Brown, included periods of home confinement as their cases awaited trial.
