On June 14, 2023, 52-year-old Wasilla resident Nelson Rodriquez Reece was fatally shot during an altercation in a neighbor's driveway off Fairview Loop Road. The incident occurred just before 7 p.m., prompting Alaska State Troopers and emergency medical services to respond to the scene. Despite life-saving efforts, Reece was pronounced dead at the location.
