On April 4, 2022, at approximately 4:39 a.m., Alaska State Troopers responded to reports of gunfire at the intersection of Old Matanuska Road and Fairview Loop in Wasilla. Upon arrival, they discovered 32-year-old Derek Welsh deceased inside his vehicle, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
