On November 20, 2023, Alaska State Troopers conducted a welfare check at a residence in Wasilla, Alaska, where they discovered the bodies of 31-year-old Kelsey Ables, her 7-year-old son, Kason Ables, and her boyfriend, 45-year-old Ryan Casey. The Alaska Bureau of Investigation's Mat-Su Major Crime Unit took over the case and determined that Casey had fatally shot Kelsey and Kason before taking his own life.
