On November 20, 2023, Alaska State Troopers conducted a welfare check at a residence in Wasilla, Alaska, where they discovered the bodies of 31-year-old Kelsey Ables, her 7-year-old son, Kason Ables, and her boyfriend, 45-year-old Ryan Casey. The Alaska Bureau of Investigation's Mat-Su Major Crime Unit took over the case and determined that Casey had fatally shot Kelsey and Kason before taking his own life.
The State Medical Examiner's Office in Anchorage performed autopsies on the
deceased. Authorities notified the next of kin and emphasized that the investigation into this tragic incident remains active and ongoing.
In the aftermath, a GoFundMe campaign was established to support the family of Kelsey and Kason. Additionally, a memorial page was created on GunMemorial.org to honor their memory. Kelsey and Kason were laid to rest at Fort Richardson National Cemetery in Anchorage, Alaska.
