A domestic dispute in Birmingham, Alabama’s Norwood neighborhood ended in tragedy on the evening of May 20, 2024, claiming the life of Demarcus Moore, a 37-year-old Black man. The incident took place in the 3400 block of 17th Avenue North.
Just before 5 p.m., Birmingham Police Department officers were dispatched to a residence for a trespassing call. Upon arrival, they discovered Demarcus Moore lying unresponsive in the yard of a home near the one they had been called to.
He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel arrived on scene and pronounced him dead.
The investigation quickly indicated that the shooting stemmed from a conflict between brothers. Police believe that Demarcus had been involved in an argument with his older brother, 43-year-old Narado Moore, which escalated into deadly violence.
Narado Moore remained at the scene and was taken into custody by officers. After Birmingham police detectives presented their case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, they obtained a warrant for his arrest. Narado Moore was subsequently charged with murder in the death of his younger brother. As of May 2024, he was being held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond as legal proceedings move forward.
