Detective Hugh Tully of the Birmingham Police Department lost his life on October 13, 1913, in a tragic incident involving an attempt to apprehend a suspect. Tully and two other officers were tasked with arresting a man who was wanted for a fatal stabbing that had occurred seven months prior to the incident.
