Hernado Retion McJunkins, a 39-year-old from Birmingham, Alabama, was fatally shot on August 17, 2021, at approximately 2:20 a.m. in the vicinity of the King’s Inn on Third Avenue North. Responding officers found McJunkins lying on a walkway with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:56 a.m. The investigation led to the arrest of two suspects, Ira Dexter Eaton Jr. and Christopher Garcia Spencer.
