On April 9, 2024, at approximately 8:28 p.m., Birmingham police officers responded to a report of a person shot in the 4200 block of Jackson Street in the Inglenook community. Upon arrival, they discovered 16-year-old Jaylin "J.J." Jenkins unresponsive inside a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services pronounced him deceased at the scene.
